I really want to know what to expect and all the different views that anyone might have had good or bad. We are trying to decide where we want to move with the military. It's my husbands first re-enlistment and we are conflicted to where we want to move. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

My old neighbor just moved from there, she said it was nice but the locals hate anyone that is not from there and the schools suck, they had to pay for there kids to ride the bus to and from school, and to pay for all kinds of stuff for the school like cleaning supplies. They were there for 8 years. They said the weather was wonderful, and it was beautiful. Good luck on your choice.

We are getting ready to move there in Sept, everyone that I have talked to loved it & said they would go back in a heartbeat. And I have a friend there now & says she doesn't want to leave. But we are in the Marines & that is a different area on the island. Good Luck!

Schofield Barracks was our last duty station before we came here and I absolutely loved it! The only drawback was my husband deployed twice while we were there so majority of it was spent by myself. We lived on and off post. On post housing was nice however we loved living off post b/c we made a lot off of BAH. We lived in Mililani Mauka. You will prob live on the West side in Kaneohe since that's where the Marine base is. It's BEAUTIFUL out on that side. We lived on the north side of the island. The marine base was def the nicest. Oh and you will be able to shop at the NEX which was awesome...

We returned from Schofield Barracks nearly 5 years ago. I loved the island hated on post housing. They were beginning to build alot of newer housing when we left. My sister has been there 2 years now with her family also on Schofield infact just 2 courts over from where we lived (older housing). They love it there! As far as the locals..we never had a problem with them. Its all about attitude. The beaches are beautiful!! Kanehoe was definitely the prettier side, NorthShore is where we would go to see the beached turtles sunbathe or swim in the beach with them right by your side(no touching or feeding turtles allowed). My sister loves the lagoons for the kids cause the water isnt so rough(can't remember the name of that beach). If I were to live there again I would definitely live off post in Mililani its much nicer than Wahiawa. But there are several places that are very pretty to live on the island it just depends how far you want to travel. The NEX is amazing and the school for the navy base is a really good school. There is so much I could share but you will eventually just have to make your own judgement of the place. We talked about living there permanently someday...hope all goes well for you and your family just remember to remain open minded and be ready for anything. If you need more info I could possibly get you in contact with my sis...shes great!
