Hi I am a bagger working at the commissary, and I just wanted to let anybody know that DOESN'T know we work for tips ONLY. There has been to many occasions where we don't get tipped or just a simple THANK YOU. We are human beings just like everyone else and we DO have feelings. We are just trying to work and make a lil money just like everyone else.

i am so sorry for this problem you have... it has happened to me where i do not have cash on hand and so i just request to take my own things...i am sorry and it really is sometimes just an innocent mistake :( good luck from here on out though yall do a great job!

Danniella --- 14 years ago -

Once I didn't have money for a tip, so I just took down the baggers # and luckily got her the next time and was able to double tip her. I know it can be frusterating when you don't get paid or tipped. People should just take out their own groceries if they don't want to tip.

Beth --- 14 years ago -

I ALWAYS tip 5.00 + when I go!!! I didnt however know that was all you guys get!!! Thanks for the info!! :-)

if I dont have any extra cash for tips I go to the self check out line...my husband worked at the commissary as a bagger for awhile and got frustrated about how little he would bring home.so we know how you feel!

Mary Poppins --- 14 years ago -

Awe thank u guys, I really do appreciate it. It just, does get a lil frustrating with not getting tipped and on top of it for them not even to look at u and say thank u. I just got a lady right now as a matter fact she told me to put it in her basket and I did, smiled and everything and after we were done I told her u have a nice day mam and she just walked away :( I don't understand why people can be so MEAN just makes me SAD :(

When I go to the commissary I usually always tip. However, I forgot to get money back when I payed with my debit card several months ago, so I told them I would take my own groceries out and they were like no, but you better bring a tip next time. I thought it was really rude! I'm sorry, but when I go to the commissary I spend around 175-200 each time, I don't have the money to tip more than a dollar, b/c we are SO broke after grocery shopping. I wish we had the option to take out ALL of our groceries, not just when we go to the *less than 20 items aisle* Each month my family and I pinch pennies and that's an extra 2.00 I could use towards my daughters school lunches, or ANYTHING. Rude or not, it's my own opinion.

I don't know who told u that?? That u better bring a tip next time?? It kinda makes me laugh cause I don't know who would say something like that. But if u remember who it was or if next time someone makes a comment to u like that, that bagger can get in ALOT of trouble possibly get fired for making a comment like that. And u DO have the option to take out your own groceries, as soon as u get to the register u tell the cashier u want ur groceries back in ur basket and u can take out all ur groceries urself. It's just courteous to tip ESPECIALLY when u have a big order like ur saying. U know u can even bag ur own groceries so u won't feel bad about not tipping, but when a costumer does that they usually take forever to bag and means we have to wait for u to finish when we can just do it and get you out of there fast and in ur cart.

No Offense at all Mary Poppins, but I wish the commissary would just put in a few checkout lanes so that we could take care of our groceries ourselves. I have two reasons that I don't care for the way its done at the commissary. One being that I am young and perfectly capable of bagging my own groceries and taking them to my car. I feel useless when an older person is taking my groceries to my car. And two, I use coupons like crazy. My family lives on a tight budget. If I could afford to tip, I wouldn't be using the coupons. Every little bit helps at my house. Times are hard. I'm glad that the service is there for those that use it but I just wish I didn't have to be made to feel like I have to use the baggers. When you opt not too, if feels like the all of the baggers leaning against the wall have their eyes on you. Make sense? I'm not trying to offend, just stating my opinion and I'm glad you provide the service you do. I know lots of folks appreciate it.

I always tip at the commissary unless I go through the self check out and granted I'm not able to tip a lot I figure something is better then nothing however I do have to say the other day I was there and this guy REALLY ticked me off because he gave me his life story on the way to my car and while that didn't bother me the part where he told me the woman he had before only gave him 2 dollars and then proceeded to complain and call her some not nice names REALLY bothered me. I mean I shop at the commissary because it's cheaper and I use coupons if I'm throwing huge tips I could just go to walmart. Sorry just wanted to put that out I know it wasn't you as I said it was a guy but maybe you could spread the word that MOST of us tip what we can when we can.

Mary Poppins --- 14 years ago -

ShayBaby, anything helps, and people shouldn't be greedy, im grateful for anything I get. If they could tip more well then they do and if not well I know their prolly just in a bind, I don't judge. And he shouldn't be talking to u about his tips in the first place, especially the way he was.

Danniella --- 14 years ago -

Wow, I just learned a few weeks ago that I could request a bagger by number. There are a couple that I really like because no matter what they're always friendly. It is nice to know that I can request taking my own groceries out next time I don't have extra to tip. This has been a really informative post. Thanks Mary Poppins! I wish all of the baggers were as level headed as you.

so Danniella, the way I read your last post is you want the baggers to bag your groceries but you want to take your own groceries to the car.....This is how it works If a bagger does any part of the bagging they lose their spot in line. So a bagger bags your groceries for no tip and goes to the end of the line and waits his /her turn again. The more adult thing to do is to tell the casheer is you want to bag your own groceries and take them to the cat and no one loses this way.

This is only beating a dead house because there is a huge sign that clearly states baggers work for tips only on the back wall just above the heads of the baggers waiting area. Some people will argue till they are blue in the face about tips, and you can never please every one so Mary Poppins when you get a no tipper or a smart remark like cherity begins at home like my son gets just go on and consider the source.

Danniella --- 14 years ago -

Meme- not sure why you're attacking me. You missread my comment I'm sure. I always tip well, but sometimes I'd rather tip 1 or 2 and just take my own groceries out. (I'd never be rude and have someone do it for nothing if I can do it myself) I was just saying it was nice to know. It's insane how some people can't seem to read the signs all over the place saying baggers work for tips, or are just rude enough not to care.

Sharon --- 14 years ago -

If you tell the cashier you want to carry out on your own and hte baggers bag your groceries if you dont tip them at all, they stay at the register, they do not go back in line from what I have seen. I have done that before, asked to do my own and they bag it anyways, even knowing I am not tipping. If you tip them for bagging, then they have to go back in the line, but not if they bag and you dont tip for that. If you bag your own, they have to move and someone might think they are done and take their spot.
