my son is autistic, and has come to that point in life where he is figuring out he is not very well accepted in sports due to not being to athletically inclined :( but he was pondering doing either karate lessons or piano lessons. i live in a small rinky dink town that offers neither, so i was wanting suggestions (if any) on places there in lawton or surrounding areas that would be good? preferably smaller groups, his condition involves the overwhelming when he gets in larger group settings. any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.  

You might try the Lawton YMCA. They have a lot of different things available there. I am not sure about the details, my son is just now almost at the age to start any activities. I do know they offer youth programs though. Hope you find something :) 

The Y has a special olympics swimming class/team. They also has karate lessons, but im not sure they have a class for special needs, although they split the kids into age groups so that may be good for him anyways. 

Hey Tish my son sounds very similar to yours!He has aspergers syndrome. I totally sympathize with you! The school they go to happens to be very good at working with everybody so as far as we have been is playing little league so to say during the summer. I think there are a few karate places in Lawton besides the Y. My son also likes to bowl but not sure if they have a smaller aged league. We havent tried that yet either. I will see if I hear of any good things to do around town!
