Hello,
My husband 3 boys and I are going to be stationed in Sill with in the next couple of months. I was wondering if any one would be willing to tell me about the area, housing, things to do.... you know just general info on the post and around there. How is housing would be my primary question. Also about schools and the OB care there? My 3rd son is due on Nov 2nd. My oldest son is 4 and will be starting school next year. My husband is a e4 so we wont be getting any fancy housing but is it at least half way decent? The BAH rates are a disgrace. :)
Thank you and have a WONDERFUL day! :)

I know some things to do around Lawton. We have a mall, medicine park where you can eat, shop, swim, have family fun, the mountain scott, you can climb up or down and take family there, there is the wildlife refuge, the holy city, several lakes around lawton, a water park, there is a lazer tag( from what im told it's not that great) but I have never been there, lots of shopping, the mall, countless parks. Uhm... there used to be a paintball field and im not sure if it's still here or not. I think there is lots more but those places and things are the first to come to mind. Wish we had a target, or best buy. that would be pretty cool.

Hi my name is Sarah. Congrats on the baby boy. I have lived here all my life. There is alot of fun things to do here. The lazer tag that Brit was talking about is at a place called LOL. it like chuckecheese. i like another place called Nations of Fun. It is for more younger children. If you have a 4 year old, you want to get him enrolled ASAP. we have a 4 year old program here. but it is first come first serve. My son was there last year. it is run through the school system so it is free, but half day. If you are not going to get housing you need to be careful about the neighborhoods. If you go to a rental co. they can not tell you about the areas. so get on here and we can help you.
also Brit, we are getting a target SOMETIME.... It is going down town by the mall where the are doing all that construction. My grandmother had property down there, and they bought it from her.

I'm high risk and still can't get out of the ob on post and I hate it there. Well I don't hate ALL of it but it's not GREAT the one doctor I refuse to go to is well I refuse to go to him anymore since he did a horrible number on me like trying to get me to take fertility pills when I was 12 weeks pregnant and wrote down a bunch of crap in my file that was all wrong that I had to prove was wrong! But good luck getting sent off post without having to pay. The wait list for on post is long though so good luck. Off post be VERY CAREFUL. Don't rent through Colonial I've been fighting with them for almost a year now and they have finally pushed us into finishing out lease and we are buying a house. Mind you we are buying a house and our mortgage will be about 700 a month we pay 1000 for rent right now and that is just the rent not including utilities or insurance so it might be something for you to think about oh and my hubby is only an e5. There is another thread on here that has a bunch of other info too you should read. Good luck!

Mary: If you ever lived in a big city and liked it, Lawton will be a change. I love the post I think it's pretty nice, but have nothing to compare it to since this is our fist duty station. There are a ton of parks and we have one spray park. The post housing is nicer than anything that you will find in Lawton for your money( if you want to stay within the BAH). We lived off post and are happy to be here on post now. The BAH is a disgrace,if you do find something in Lawton it will be in a rough neighborhood. We lived out by 67th and Cache, there were two shooting at the apartment complex and a drunk driver crashed in a front yard and watched him drive away. I couldn't let my kids outside. Then we lived off of SW Cornell, yeah bad too and SW B Ave in apartments that were new, there were bad. So, you just have to be careful. I mean there is crime everywhere you move it's just you might see it more because the town is small. To me it's my personal opinion but is seems that things are stuck in the 80's here. Like housing ect. But again post housing is nice. The new housing has carpet upstairs but not down so some of our friends said even though they buy rugs they have a hard time making it feel like a home. Then there are town homes, we live in and they are very nice. Updated. Then they have the regular duplex type and they have been updated as well inside. I can't tell you about the OB care, just what I have read, lol. As for things to do with toddlers and preschoolers it's hard to find stuff to do. I mean you can only go to the pools and spray park so much before kids get bored. Like I said parks and pools are pretty much it. Older kids have fun at LOL and prices are reasonable. Hope this helps some.

Thank you for all the info guys! :) I am going to try and get on post but as I will be bringing a new baby home beginning of Nov I want to be settled by then. Keeping my fingers crossed for a miracle with on post housing. :)
