I have a totally bi-polar post I guess.

I was hoping someone here would be able to help me in finding a good place to buy some of my fruits and meats organically. I haven't been in Lawton long. I saw 'Lawton Whole Foods', is that a good place? Anywhere else you've found good reliable organic food?

And now on the other end... does anybody know of a doctor that prescribes phentremine? Or one of the weight lose clinics around here that prescribe REAL phentremine?

Thanks in advance!

Kells --- 14 years ago -

Hi, not sure where to get phentermine from. I moved here from Hawaii and was prescribed phentermine and looked for it when I got here. There's a clinic on Sheridan however, it's ridiculously expensive and there phentermine looked different and didn't have the same affects as the one I took in HI.

As far as organic foods please let me know if you find a place! I usually go to Farmer's markets in OKC or Wichita Falls.

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

my family dr prescribes it ( i think acouple of them here in town do)
and the drs at rynolds also cause i had a friend who was an army wife and she got it thats how i found out about it
the health food store is good there is another one around the corner from that one they r both good and reliable as far as i know
hope this helps

Glenna, Dr. Maury prescribes Adipex-P which, in generic form, is Phentermine. It cost $79 for each visit, you go once a month, and the prescription is $14. Good luck!

Glenna --- 14 years ago -

@Sweet, who is your family doctor?

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

no phentermine is the generic form and if u get it from kmart adipex is $60 and phentermine is $30 and thats with ins
Brent smith he is a great dr but his secretaries have Mean-girl Complex
( i think need a happy pill or a shot in the a$$ something lol )

not being mean or anything but ive seen dr maury before and he is one of the worst drs in town i know several ppl who have used him and have yet to find a good review

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

lol i jsut got a watch ur langauge notice lol thats first lol

So I went to "Whole Foods of Lawton" today. It was more like "Whole VITAMINS of Lawton". It's pretty misleading actually b/c they have fruits and veggies painted on the windows! They had apples and oranges. That was it. Then the health food store thats in that same strip mall as Hobby Lobby had a little bit more. Peaches, Corn, Potatoes, Celery, Carrots and a few other things as far as fresh produce goes. Ugh, looks like I'm still on a search for a reliable organic food store (or source).

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

sorry hun its been acouple of years since ive been to either but they r the only ones that i know of

the great plains colliseum has a farmers market u may want to check out

Brooke --- 14 years ago -

Not sure if all of the "corrections" were directed towards me but...

1- I clearly stated that Phentermine is the generic form of Adipex-P.

2. I fill my subscription at Kmart and pay $14 for phentermine. The Adipex-P would have cost me $30...and I do not utilize my insurance for that purchase. I do take the 37.5 might I note.

3. I really like Dr. Maury and have others that would agree with me. When I initially went to see him, he really took the time to go over everything with me and told me to call the office with any questions or concerns. My second visit was no different. People assume that Phentermine is a "miracle pill." It isn't...it should be used as a tool to assist. In the first month I lost 25ibs...I count my calories, I drink only water, occasionally with Crstal light, and have begun working out 5 days a week. I have tried for years and phentermine just kick started my metabolism. Dr Maury discussed my results and he agrees most failure comes from those who think they can still eat and do whatever and expect the pill to melt away the pounds.

And as for the cost- the $79 is for first visit only. I failed to notate that any visit afterwards is $49 and you do visit him once a month.

Dr. Maury gave me the help to kick start my weight loss that no other doctor would. I am looking better and feel GREAT! And my last labs/physical came back perfect per my regular physician. :)

Glenna- I buy all of my fresh produce @ Mikes Produce Stand in Cache. I have his business card @ work as I order all of my produce from him for m canning. :) It costs the same as gardening but instead I don't have the hassle AND I am supporting the LOCAL economy! I'll post it tomorrow once I get the #.

Bridget --- 14 years ago -

there is a framers market here in towm wednesdays and saturday mornings !!! i think they atart at 7 am at the colliseum on sheridan road !!! great eggs and watermelons !!! :) hope that helps !

Glenna --- 14 years ago -

@ Brooke - is Mike certified organic? and
@Bridget - same thing, do you know if there are any stands there that are certified organic?

The organic part is the thing for me. I only have a handful of produce that I need organic. I use them to make my daughter's baby food and just figure if I'm putting in the time and effort to make her food so that I know whats in it but I'm not making sure pesticides aren't used then I might as well as buy the jars. And eventually she'll be eating meats and I want that as organic as possible too. I may have to suck it up and drive to OKC or WF once a month and stock up for the next month.

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

hey brooke i wasnt trying to mean or rude that was just my experience with those and i had misread what u wrote about phentermine

And with dr Maury these are the problems i had:
He prescribed me meds when i was prego with my first child that u are not supposed to give a pregnant woman, one side effect was posible miscarriage and even said that if u were or would be prego not to even touch the bottle
( i went swimming at a friends pond and got scabbies(sp))covered myself in the lotion told my dad about it and he looked up the info and was upset I was on DHS healthcare and didnt know i could change drs and when my little girl was born for her 2 week check up he forgot we were even in the room and we were in there for over 3 hrs ( he left the office to go golfing or something no one ever told me he had stepped out and that my appt would be pusshed back three hours and i kept stepping out trying to figure out what was going on )

my sis in law is highly allergic to some meds and he prescribed her meds that were the same thing just under a different name she had a allergic reaction and almost died, then prescribed her too much of another med that put her in the hospital for 2weeks to get her levels back to where they were supposed to be the drs at comanche memorial said that if she didnt come in with in 2hrs from when she came in she would have died

and my husbands gma same thing wrong type of meds and she had heart problems and was on blood thinners and prescribed her more thinners and was in the hospital because she was on too many thinners

hes just for some reason not good with meds and didnt have a good bed side manner with us

Im glad u have had a better experience but I would not go see him ever again

Brooke --- 14 years ago -

Glenna- Not sure but I'll talk to Mike and see! I'll get back to you on that. There used to be a "U-Pick" out towards Marlow that grew organic fruits and some veggies, but I couldn't tell you if they were still open. I'll look into that. :)

Sweet- My Gawd. No wonder you don't care for him! I use him only for diet purposes as I have a regular family practitioner. I don't care for my doctor though (looooong story) and have been looking for a good alternative. I considered switching to Dr. Maury, but that scares me. I have enough health problems and don't need to have a heart attack or something because I was prescribed the wrong item. How scary. I just have a hard time trusting doctors in general. I have had one GD that truly listened and took steps towards attempting to fix the problem rather than pump me with useless pharmicuticals. I'll save that HUGE rant for another day! *lol*

And I didn't take you as rude at all. I prolly came across as rude- but some things were different for me. :)

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

Brooke I would see if brent smith has any openings like i said i love him as a dr jsut really dislike his secertaries(sp) but the rest of his staff is great and normally really fast
jsut dont be even 1 min late to an appt the seceratries will make u reschedule even if it important

so im in the spot i love my dr but hate the receptionists
what do i do im looking into going to another dr cause the ladies jsut make me feel awkward jsut to walk into the office and im surprised i havent gone off on them

Glenna --- 14 years ago -

@Brooke, thanks for asking Mike and telling me about the u pick.

@Sweet, I wasn't placing any blame on you for the Lawton Whole Foods being Lawton Whole Vitamins. I mean, they even have produce painted on the window!

So I made an appt with Dr. Maury but am doing the same thing as Brooke after reading what all he did to Sweet and her fam. I'm pretty attentive to meds and stuff anyways and look them up before I take them and such. But thank you so much for your help and advice!

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

Glenna- I didnt even take it that way i jsut felt bad to tell u some where I could have sworn they had produce at one time but go figure for lawton to turn a health food store in to another GNC

I hope u have a good experience with dr maury and remember not to just go cold turkey off the pills I did alot of research on them when i was taking them

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

keep me updated on ur progress

Glenna --- 14 years ago -

I've taken it before. I did an excellent job of keeping off the 60lbs I lost for an entire year. Then my new sexiness did an excellent job of getting me pregnant when my husband returned from deployment. So after a c-section and a huge baby and having unknown gestational diabetes I'm having problems getting the weight off in certain place. The same places I could never get it off before until I was given phentremine. So I'll try again. And last time my doc expected me to just quit them but I weaned off b/c I do the same thing as you and research the heck out of my meds. But thank you for looking out for me and I will keep you updated on my progress. Kinda hoping by mid September I'll finally be out of maternity jeans. Although I do love that comfy little panel so :)

Glenna --- 14 years ago -

ok, so I went to Dr. Maury today. I can see how what Sweet said is true. He seems a bit of a mess. His nurses were very nice and helpful and I have to say I really enjoyed his speil about only eating packaged foods. He does, however, seem to actually give a darn that I do this right which was impressive to me. Even the last time I was on this from my doctor that I had been seeing for over a year didn't give me as much instruction and direction as he did. And he was very honest about how much I could expect to lose and when. I'll just mind his P's and Q's at each visit.

Brooke --- 14 years ago -

Glenna- The first 3-4 weeks I was on the Adipex-p/Phentermine I followed his guidelines regarding the packaged foods; like you, I really connected with his point of the packaged foods.

After I began to get the feel for portion sizes and limitations, I began cooking on my own again. I just weight, measure, read calories on EVERYTHING. I also count every single bite I eat. By doing this I am still being good calorie wise, but can also insure my protein and fiber intake are enough and my sodium isn't superfleous!

After the first 30 days I was down 16 pounds- the first result I had seen in five years. On day one of the second month, since I knew the diet was working, I decided to join the gym and have been busting my butt like you wouldn't believe! I am 47 days in and have lost 30 pounds so far, but I am also tighter/firmer and my BMI has dropped by 8%!! YAY! I know my weight loss would be more, but I am gaining muscle. The strength increase has been amazing!

I use the pills as only a tool and have realized that the change needs to be an overall lifestyle change...not just another diet. If it helps, check out sparkpeople.com. I have an account there and LOVE it. I count all of my calories, track my fitness, lo my water intake plus it has other awesome things like recipe calculators, forums and much, much more.

I go to Anytime Fitness rather than the gym on base, but if you decide you want to work out some, let me know! I have several 2 week VIP passes where you can use the gym for free. Let me know if you are interested. I normally go before work, though, which is between 5:30am-6am then work out until approximately 7:15am. Saturdays I go a bit later.

Good luck on your ventures! And I agree...the nurses are very, very nice and helpful. And yes, Dr. Muary does take the usage of the pills seriously. I appreciate him giving me the opportunity and listening to me...my primary doctor has known me for almost 2 years and she never gave me that chance to prove I want the change.

Brooke --- 14 years ago -

Sweet- Where is Brent Smith's office located? Seeing all of the change from buckling down and losing weight really, really, really wants me to change doctors. I have had other issues and she pushes them aside or shoves medication down my throat. For example- rather than discussing how to lower cholesteral she pushes prescriptions. I haven't taken the pills since I started my diet and she was all raving on how the pills lowered my cholesteral. No...that was me!

Sweet --- 14 years ago -
