Theres a possibility that my hubby will be an instructor at the schoolhouse out there (were Marine Corps). With that said, this would be our first PCS move as a family. I want to get somewhat of an idea on housing (he's and E-5), we have 2 kids (3 yrs and 1 yr) and 2 dogs.

Both our kids are going to speech therapy right now and will need recommendations on a therapist out there as well as a PCM. Right now we all have the same PCM and love her!

What is the school system like? recommendations for schools are GLADLY accepted too :)

more about me: i'm a sahm who sells scentsy and pampered chef. i love music and going outdoors. i'm terrified of tornados and driving in snow too! ack!

Thanks:)

Well, fear not about the tornadoes. We rarely see rain in Lawton. Stuff splits and goes around us!

I rent from a terrific lady who has a special place in her heart for animals and low deposits. the housing out here is far from what I'm use to. Very 50's and much smaller than I was paying the same amount for where we came from and where we will be going to next. I also live directly across from a school which is super odd to me but I can see how it would be awesome if your kids go to school.

I don't see army doctors anymore. So my daughter sees Dr. Gail Lewis and we adore her. I don't so much care for my doctor but he gets the job done but my OB/GYN is Dr. Lewis and she rocks. I have heard good things about the doctors at the army care facility though so maybe you'll luck out. No clue on speech therapy.

We found our rental house through a friend but typically the couple that owns our house lists it on ahrn.com when they are needing to find a renter.

Also, Ft. Sill is now giving family members the option of going off post to the Frontier Medical Home for clinic appointments. I switched because it is closer to our house anyway and I love it. They spend so much time with you and follow through with things. My friend even had a doctor call her at 645pm on a Friday to let her know lab results. I think that is pretty impressive.

Speech therapy, I'm not sure. Maybe on post? I'm actually an occupational therapist and worked with kids when we were in NC but when we moved here I couldn't find any pediatric therapy clinics so I'm working with adults now. The hospitals might also have speech therapists that provide outpatient therapy.

My son just started speech therapy and RACH referred him to Gore therapy clinic. We have Mrs. Laura and my son seems to love her and is making great improvements. I also transferred my kids to frontier med center and we have doc.Joyce. He is amazing with the kids.

Im not sure on schools but when looking into them for my soon to be three year old there were not any for him that were public. All were pretty much a daycare that called themselves a headstart. Headstarts where im from were at no cost these i found were. Please someone correct me if im wrong. We live over by almor west and from what i hear (been here 4 years) that is one of the best elementary.

When looking for a house the base should provide you with the stay out of zones but i strongly suggest coming out and researching before you get here. This place is nuts! You can have a home a bad neighborhood next to a good one and not realize it until dark. It took us a year to find a house to buy.

As for pcm im not sure but my ob/gyn is Hierigs and refer him to all my friends. He delivered both my boys and one I believe is alive and healthy because of his knowledge and experience.

I'm sorry, my OB/GYN is not Dr. Lewis. It's Dr. Lennon. Lewis is my daughter's doctor.

And Kortne is very right about a good neighborhood and then the next street over is a bad one. Very touch and go!

I was born and raised in Oklahoma and now my husband and I are stationed here from Fort Lewis. Lawton NEVER sees rain...every once in a blue moon we get a storm. I live in the Bishop School District. It's a very small school and so far I've heard really great things about it. My son will be going there next year. I go off post for my doctor to Frontier Medical. LOVE my doctor. I've heard about Michele Rogers. People say she's a great speech therapist. Hope I helped somehow!

Hi, My name is Sarah I have lived here my whole life. I have never seen a tornado here, you have to watch the wind. I am a speech teacher in the Lawton public school system. Since your child is 3 the school system will provide services, get ahold of the special services center. The Gore therapy clinic just opened. I know a few of the therapist there. They are really good.
There are 2 schools on post. They are apart of the Lawton Public School system.
If you live off post, the best thing to do is to find a few houses, and drive through the neighborhood at night. It will be a good indication of what it is like. Here in Lawton it is a real big "you get what you pay for" The more east and more west you go the better it will be. Good Luck. Welcome to Lawton/Ft. Sill
