I am a home school mom. I am just wondering if there are any groups here in Lawton. I am very devoted to my religion but after careful consideration and the use of several Christian based curriculum, I have chosen to use secular school materials. I have tried joining groups before, but have been unable in good conscience to sign the statements of faith that most groups require, so I am looking for a Secular friendly group to get some ideas as far as what works for homeschoolers around these parts. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

I wish I could help. I have been looking for homeschool material for my grandson but unable to afford to buy a program at this time. If you have any ideas I will be happy to hear them myself.

What Grade is your son? I may still have some 5th and 6th grade level here. Have you looked into the free public online academies? You will get all he needs, and won't pay unless he has lab fees or something like that. You are still a little more bound to public school as far as curriculum choice, attendance and turning in assignments on time, but he is home, and getting a much better quality education. I looked it to it at one point, before I had a friend help me to find enough free material, that I could afford the rest. It is very time consuming, but you can find a lot of free resources on line and put together your own curriculum. I hope it works out!

I have heard of an Online Charter School. They run out of Oklahoma City I believe. It is called Epic. If I understand correctly( I haven't called them myself, just talked with a parent who uses them), they buy the curriculum you choose for your child and if there is money left in your child's alottment they also will pay for Karate, or Swimming or that type of stuff too. Might be worth looking.
Good Luck, Let me know if I can help at all. I know the decision to pull a child from public school is a very scary one. For myself, though, I wish I would have had the gumption from day one! I love to have them home, and to see them soak up the knowledge that would be overshadowed by garbage at school.
