You know what is freaking RIDICULOUS.......When you go to get a job and they want EXPERIENCE?! I am not a certified phlebotomist but I am trained and even took the class at GPTC and was the TOP student in my class I have my transcript to prove it! I was hoping to start working as a phlebotomist after the class but everywhere I apply want you to have EXPERIENCE?! How the HELL are you suppose to have experience if NO ONE will hire you....?! I am a GREAT worker my last job will even verify that! I worked 30+ hours just on the weekends and when someone would call in.....I would go in, sometimes I didn't even make it home because they called me back because someone didn't show up! It is SOOOOO irritating but yet I keep looking and HOPING someone one day will realize the irony in this "EXPERIENCE" debate. Maybe I should take up cake making....LOL JK! I don't want in the middle of that drama!

Samantha --- 15 years ago -

You know, I think they should at least count part of your training experience!! Some trades do!

have you considered doing like ummm whatchmacallit??? like internship/praticum/no-pd working like to get the hrs of experience to be able to put on a resume, just thought that might be of help, not even sure if you could do that in your field, but oh man i know where you are coming from, it is very frustrating......grrrrrr, i've told alot of places i've applied to the same thing!!! where am i supposed to start if no one gives a job wihtout experience!!!??? good luck to you girl, dont give up, it will come!

Sharon --- 15 years ago -

I agree, it sucks and so unfair. Keep your head up and keep trying, I like Tish idea of trying to to something volunteer but dont know "insurance wise" if many places do that because of liability. Good Luck.

Amber --- 15 years ago -

Yeah my hubby is a medic and works at RACH so im going to go there and talk to some ppl and see if i can come in like a few days a week for a few hours and see if that helps! I need to do something though I am tired of being at home. But with nursing school coming up in june or august i will have a lil time to at least work before i have to give it up! I just want some thing to do!null

Amber, I was once told that you have to do internship somewhere to finish if you have taken the class. I was told it is required to get the hours as an intern, then once you have x amount of hours you can get certified.

Amber --- 15 years ago -

well that isnt entirely true you can go get certified without doing any internship but its like $500+ to get certified!

tish --- 15 years ago -

yup we just had course offered at our vocational school for 450 books and tution included!!!! i couldnt believe it!!! i am a business major and so wanted to take it but by the time i called in they were filled up already..

smiley --- 15 years ago -

Geez, maybe they told me that because it would be better to intern. $500 is crazy!

Amber --- 15 years ago -

Yeah it is ridiculous ecspecially when I already paid 95 for the class and 35 for the book at the great plains tech center! Then to go spend that kinda money...NO THANKS! I am HOPEFULLY starting nursing school in august so im not worrying about it!

laura --- 15 years ago -

i talked to a lady at comanche county memorial hospital and she said they ask for experiencebut they will actually teach someone if they really dont know what they r doing i never took a class and she was telling me to apply so u you should check it out they may take you in a heart beat never hurts to try laura

mommyof2 --- 15 years ago -

you know, i have been trying for almost 9 months to find a job. i've had countless interviews, sent my resume to countless employers, and still nothing! i was in the regular army for some time and am now in the national guard. sure, i havent worked a full time job since 2006, but i thought the fact that being in the military was supposed to get me somewhere in life!!! its so frustrating when i apply at at&t and they tell me that b/c i have no sales experience they cant hire me. well, im sorry, but we dont sell in the military, we work our asses off. or i go into applebees to apply as a waitress, but i have no experience with customers...urgh!

Amber --- 15 years ago -

Yeah I hear that! It is really annoying. I had an interview nad I THINK it went well but then she told me i would get an email and I was like OH GREAT that is prolly a big fat NO! SO we will see. But i wanted to let everyone know that if you volunteer through the red cross at RACH they have a dental assistant program that you can go through! I am thinking of doing it. But its prolly another certification that I wont be able to use!

tish --- 15 years ago -

prego mommy i am sorry to hear this, and your right, nothing makes me more frustrated to see that on a day to day basis, that our fine military soldiers are out busting but and to come back to civilian life and get turned down at jobs like your talking about. i have friend that she was like awesome in the military, her mom would always put things in our small town newspaper on how much she was achieving and all, and she ended up pg came home and didn't up the second time. i saw her the other day working at a casino as a cook!!! i felt sooo bad, but she said that is what is paying the bills right now so no other choice. i think there needs to be a law or something that military will be given preference no matter if no experience is on hand.....just my sob opinion. good luck to you.
