SO, my friend's great dane was STOLEN from her yard, some POS cut the lock on the gate. The animal control "officer" said he witnessed the dane jumping out of a fence over on W Gore. Picked him up & took him to the pound. This was at 9:20am. Let me set the scene for ya, the dane had a collar w/ tags + a phone #. He also has a tracking tattoo on his belly, along w/ a matching tag that sais he is tattooed!! ALL of his tags were still attached when my friend showed up at the pound looking for him, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT CALL HER!! THEN, on top of that, they charged her over 200.00 because "they had him for a day" when they told her when she got there that they picked him up 40min earlier!! WTF!? They are some sorry SOB's down there!! MONEY HUNGRY!!!

GeorgiaGirl --- 15 years ago -

Reguardless if she was there 40mins late or 40 sec. late she should HAVE TO PAY the 200.00 and the only thing sorry is that you feel that rules should be broken for your friend. I would also assume the lawton animal control is VERY BUSY due to the high number of strays so pershaps that is why they hadnt gotten around to calling the owner of the dog.

And no I dont work there or am I related to anyone or even know anyone who does.

As soon as I got on the main topic page & saw that YOU had written I KNEW that it was something hateful towards me. Thanx for not letting me down =) NEXT!!!

GeorgiaGirl --- 15 years ago -

Hateful? Lol really? Listen texas rules are rules and they are there for a reason. If you are not grown up enough to relize this that isn't my problem. Also that isn't me being hateful if you want to see hateful look in the mirror at the bitter woman looking back at you. The world hasn't screwd you so stop walking around with a big chip on your freaking sholder. That was me being hateful. :) next!!!

I think I'm going with GG on this one. Everybody can think of a reason they should be excluded from paying animal controls fines....example-my dog is only 4 lbs and didn't take up much space or eat much food and just slipped thru the fence.

TC- Look at the bright side: paying a fine should be a blessing. Atleast the dog didn't get hit by a car.

TexasChild~2 --- 15 years ago -

See that's the problem. I NEVER said that my friend shouldn't have to pay the fine, simply because she's my friend, like GG said. I don't understand why there is a 200+ dollar fine. What do they do for the dogs there that they need to charge 200+ for? They feed them, isn't that basically it? I KNOW they don't vaccinate them or fix them, because you have to sign a paper saying that YOU will get them fixed w/ in a certain # of days. They don't get them checked by a vet because I have heard horror stories of people who adopted an animal & the dog was in such poor shape it died w/ in days. That's what this whole post was about, that the pound charges WAY too much for the little that they do, not that MY friend should'nt have to pay simply because she is MY friend.

GeorgiaGirl --- 15 years ago -

you never DIDNT say it. All you made the rant say was they are money hungry this and gold diggers that. My friend should be able to skate by the rules. Perhaps next time instead of rolling in screaming pick pocket you should describe the poor care and conditions and not understanding where the large amount of money is going to like you have in your second post. Child I also do love how instead of being a adult and describing why you felt she shouldnt have to pay to me in your responce post you make it into me personally attacking you like i do in every post "rolls eyes" and only after somone agrees with you explain what you are really getting at.

I will agree I would NEVER adopt from the pound in lawton due the the substandard condtions and the poor care the dogs have had.

TexasChild~2 --- 15 years ago -

Not even gonna give you the satisfaction.

GeorgiaGirl --- 15 years ago -

I have no idea what you are talking about. Please child explain this statment

TexasChild~2 --- 15 years ago -

I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts *diddly dee* there they are standing in a row *boom boom boom* big ones, small ones, some as big as your head!! =)

GeorgiaGirl --- 15 years ago -

LOL whatever dude its plain to see that you are the one with the REAL issues in this conversation.

Victoria1 --- 15 years ago -

hmmm maybe there are different rules or guidelines? im not sure. my sister was dogsitting for me and my dog (husky/shepard mix)got out of her gate and was picked up by the pound. they identified her by her city of lawton tag and called my work number and i had to pay 66.00 to "bail" her out and they said the fine would go up next time she was brought in... but this was a few years ago..

Lindsey --- 15 years ago -

was the dane fixed bc if not thats when they up the fees if they r not fixed other than that it shouldnt be that high a friend of mine her boston terriers got out went down to the school right from their house they called the pound since they were not fixed to get them out it was gonna be 500 alltogether i guess its also to feed vaccinate and spay neuter for other animals tho to which is good

Bologna --- 15 years ago -

Think about it TC...If you litter, the fine is $500-1000. Does it really cost that much to pick up a piece of trash? Heck no!!! The fines are that much so people will make sure to be responsible and make sure their pets are safe! And if they're not, guess what..It's gonna cost ya!

TexasChild~2 --- 15 years ago -

Yeah, I get the idea of it. Just like if you speed you get a ticket. It's a deterrant. It just sux xtra for her cause her dog didn't get out of her yard on his own. The lock was cut & he was loaded up & taken to a strangers house who, thankfully was STUPID because they put him outside in their yard & he cleared the fence like a freakin deer! We are thankful, I mean even though she had to pay that sh!t @ least she got her baby back! Thank God for stupid criminals! =)

Beth --- 14 years ago -

I LOVE BEING ABLE TO READ ABOUT MY DOG LOL - Yes I am sooooooo BLESSED the animal control picked him up I would of rather paid the 200 then never see him again! Ya my lock was cut on my gate! TC you are 100% right THANK GOD FOR STUPID CRIMINALS!! My prob with the fee was not having to pay! Like I said if it wasnt for them who knows where he could be! My problem is that I have PERSONALLY worked at the SPCA in Cali and if we had a stray come in we would scan for a microchip, look for a tattoo, or if the dog had a collar on with tags OR ANY OF THE ABOVE we would call the owner right away before we put them in the system! Because that was ALOT cheaper than actually having to start all the paperwork, vet work, and boarding on the animal. The reason the fee was so high was not only because they picked him up (but that was the majority of it) but because he had not had his rabies shot yet so they charged me bit for that, and the ONLY reason hedid not have his shot was because he is a high dollar dog, we have a contract with the breeder statin all kinds of stipulations, one being he is not to have his rabies until AFTER he is six months, he was caught by the pound while only five months old! I did bring my contract, his shot records, and the police report we had to have made since it was a robbery.I would of paid any amount of money to get him back!! And I did! My question tho to the animal control is, if a dog comes into the shelter why not give a one minute phone call to the owners so they can pick up the animal which FROM EXPERIENCE is alot easier than having to put the dog in the system! And this is not just for me this should be for ANY FAMILY PET that has id!! How many animals would find their homes again and how many dogs/cats could be out of the shelter, if they just called instead of ignoring the fact they have a family and never call!

brit --- 14 years ago -

I have a relatively stupid question that I have probably asked someone at some point before and forgot. Where do I go to get a dog registered? I really need to do that because my long hair chihuahua keeps going under the fence. The lady that owned this house prior to myself and husband had a great pyraneese. (spelled that wrong). And she made a point of digging holes under the fence before leaving. And the only part she dug holes under was the part where the door swings open. so Putting a plug type of thing there wont work since we have to open and close it to mow the lawn. I need gravel! at least those are the only ones we have found so far.

Beth --- 14 years ago -

lol I figured that question out when my dane was found! You would go to the animal contol it is on 6th st off of lee i believe .....lol dont quote me tho i have a bad memory on where things are! :-)

brit --- 14 years ago -

ah okay, does it cost anything? I'll do it monday.

Sharon --- 14 years ago -

Brit, I do believe it does cost and I think it is based on whether or not the animal is fixed and how old they are. I am not sure tho, but if you google lawton animal control you should be able to find it there.
