I really love Sillyardsales. I love how it's not so impersonal as craigslist. You can actually know who your buying from and it's easy to find stuff locally. I like that it's basically a free thing, especially if you get the decal. But what is up with people who can't just be happy and follow the rules? Isn't that the point of the flagging system? To keep us all following the rules. There is no reason people should be fighting on that site. Fight on the underground if it's that big of a deal. And apparently now it's the puppy sellers who are getting all upset. Last I checked you can't sell puppies, no matter what on there. And if you are getting rid of your dog (not puppies) you can charge up to a 100 dollar rehoming fee. I think that's more than fair.
So come on people, Just follow the rules!!! So the rest of us who are just trying to sell or buy things in a nice friendly personal environment dont' have to weed through the stupid posts about who is doing what to who.

I like "getting rid of your dog" is ok, but someone can't find homes for their puppy because they put so much time and effort into them. Also how is it selling if your only asking $100 whether it's a puppy or not?

Sweet --- 14 years ago -

its sellin g cause it is something u own that u are charging someone else to take it off ur hand no matter what the charge if u charge a fee its called SELLING

Lmao sorry i dont normally get in to this shit but really

Victoria1 --- 14 years ago -

what's the difference between saying selling and "rehoming" fee? if ur asking money for it just say ur selling it? i never understood the difference

Glenna --- 14 years ago -

As far as a "rehoming" fee goes, I see what you're saying about how it's selling no matter what but I once read on some animal advocacy website about the do's and don'ts of adopting out a pet and one of the don'ts was to never just give the animal away but to charge something, even if it was $10, because studies have shown that (typically) people value things they have had to pay for more than things they were given. It made sense to me. However, when I charge a 'rehoming fee' it's never been much and I normally try to send the animal with something of the same value, mostly food. I use to live in the country and ran across many strays and thrown out animals. I know people don't always send something with the animal even if they charged a rehoming fee. I am also aware that some of us don't place dollar values on items, especially living beings and I realize that for $10 a flipper will still jump on the chance and an abuser will still abuse the animal. And I'm sure that you also think it's sad that people can't treat pets and animals as living creatures instead of a cash register or soccer ball no matter. To me $100 does seem like alot but I can see where there might be exceptions. It makes me mad when I see people that have a 'Family dog' that has to go for whatever reason and the owner wants a 'rehoming fee' of $250. Better yet when they say 'I'd hate to take him to the pound but I'll have to if I don't get rid of him'.

::drags out her soapbox::

(addressing no one specifically)
First; you get 'rid' of your kids' old toys, not the family pet you all love. You would 'find a home' for the pet, not get rid of it like the trash. Second; Do you think the pound is going to give you $250 for Spot? HeII no! They're gonna take him in the back and throw him in a cage for 3 days and then KILL him. If you loved him SO much you'd give him away before you made him do the death walk into the pound.

Feels better to get that off my chest. I wasn't going to get into this either but my fingers got on a roll. I don't mean to offend the ones who are honestly looking for a home for their pet (as I'm doing right now actually) without trying to make bank off them.

@Sweet - how did you get this thing to take the word sh!t? It stopped me for heII!

Bologna --- 14 years ago -

I agree with most, but the question yet to be answered is "If you're charging a $100(since that seems to be acceptable to most), what does it matter whether the animal is an adult or puppy?" Seems to me someone who's charging for their unwanted, unloved, abused animal should be seen the same as someone with a puppy. IT'S ALL SELLING SO WHY THE BIG DEAL ON WHAT GOES ON BOOKOO?!

Bologna --- 14 years ago -

Atleast someone with puppies or kittens has the gall to say honestly why they're selling/rehoming unlike someone giving some lame excuse as to why their selling their use to be pet.

Glenna --- 14 years ago -

Bologna, I think that is bookoo's attempt to block breeders or more importantly, puppy mills, and the only safe way to do that is to say no puppies. But I see what you're saying. Puppy or adult dog, they both deserve loving homes no matter their age. Which stinks for people who are just trying to find a home for 1 puppy or for their accidental litter.

Danniella --- 14 years ago -

I didn't make the rules on bookoo, it says no puppies. Although if it's 1 puppy that you got and something didn't work out, like it attacks your kids, or you realized you were a bad pet owner, I don't see a problem (that's just me). But I'm tired of breeders putting puppies up all the time. As for me, we adopted all of our dogs for free. I wouldn't pay for them cause there are tons of free dogs who need homes. I adopted 1 from the pound and he died a week later of parvo. That was the last time for me. I try to get them before they go there. As for the rehoming fee... I see it reasonable to list one, but if someone could give the dog a good home it should be a negotiable thing like i've seen some people post. I don't know.
As for the accidental litters, I kinda agree there. Though I haven't seen many, if any mix breed puppy lots put up lately. Have you?

Bologna --- 14 years ago -

I think this topic is getting stupid. It's ok for someone to sell their mistake of buying a puppy?? Why?? Isn't it still a puppy?
There is no such thing as an accidental litter. Just someone who doesn't want to admit the truth that they bred their dog. There is signs to an animal coming into heat.
If I'm right, it says no puppy SALES which is different than no puppies. and if $100 is considered a rehoming fee then what does it matter.

Glenna --- 14 years ago -

And that is why they say no puppy sales, because they know breeders and mills will lie and say that's the only one they have and offer to meet you in the Atwoods parking lot.

And I see what you mean about how it doesn't say you can't GIVE puppies away. I misunderstood the 'all pet listings must have a price' as needing a dollar amount which would mean all the puppies would have to be sold. Yep, I looked too far into that one.
