Hey Brooke, Do you know where I can find neon green edible paint? I am making my husband's cake and I need that color but I can't find it anywhere in town. I would really appreciat it if you could point me in the direction to where I can get it. Thanks in advance.

Hyperbole --- 15 years ago -

Tish- *lol* Thanks! People like you make it all worth while to come on back!! Mary Jane- Depends- what are you doing with the edible paint? Are you mixing it with frosting? Painting fondant? Airbrushing? Using it for something else? Hobby Lobby has an awesome assortment of Wilson dyr- it is edible and you can use it to either dye frosting, or other foods, or paint fondant. Another option is use the thin airbrush dye. You cannot get that locally, but Country Mart has sold it in the past to be for a very reasonable price (cake department). Just call and let them know what you want. That is a very thin dye, but is more vibrant. If that's not what you need, let me know. I know of some awesome websites or I might have what you are looking for. :)

MaryJane --- 15 years ago -

Thanks Brooke! I am making a replica of his xbox 360 and need the paint for the game case, why ere they neon green? Anyhow, I will check hobby lobby and country mart again. That's all I am missing and I know he'll love it! Thank you for the advice :D

Hyperbole --- 15 years ago -

If all else fails, they have this sparkly neon green gel- you can find it at Hobby Lobby, Sometimes JoAnne fabrics, and typically the Wal*Mart on Quannah. I have used that in the past, but normally a bright green paints well for the X-box theme!

Hyperbole --- 15 years ago -

Mary Jane- DId you ever find that dye you were looking for?

Hyperbole --- 15 years ago -

Great Update!! I am investing in an ice cream maker and will begin making ICE CREAM CAKES within the next month! I am VERY excited about this prospect. My mind is racing trying to come up with some radical flavors. *lol* Also- I have not yet posted this on my facebook fan or group page yet, but I will be starting a referral competition this evening. I am asking all Lawtonians, and people in areas surrounding Lawton, to encourage their friends to join my fan and/or group page! After you send them an invite/referral message me, or post on my wall, to let me know who you referred so when they join I can make sure you get your points! The person with the most points by May 27th will win their choice of a free sheetcake, ice cream cake, or 2 dozen cupcakes. Their choice in flavor, color, decoration, etc!!

mommyof2 --- 15 years ago -

yay!!! i'm doing it now! we love icecream cakes, especially me! i may order myself a bday cake from you, b/c i am pretty sure my husband won't think to do it himself! lol

Reeses --- 15 years ago -

Yeah. I emailed asking you to make me the cake below. I am feeding 75 people and you wanted $50???????? That is crazy. Sorry. I can go to Walart and for $50 feed alot more than 75 people. You need to get with it. You have a sense of entitlement so it seems. No one pays that much for a stupid cake. DON'T USE PEOPLE. OBVIOUSLY she is a SCAM ARTIST. Im going to Walmart.

mommyof2 --- 15 years ago -

wow, people like you are the exact reason why brooke stopped advertising online. i would be more than happy to pay $50 for a cake that size and that decorated! she is definitely not a scam artist! and walmart? seriously? i've ordered cakes from bakeries at walmart and grocery stores, and they do NOT compare to her cakes! that's a huge cake, $50 is NOT outrageous!

Samantha --- 15 years ago -

I can GUARANTEE that cake pictured cost upwards of $100+++ Walmart sells crappy cakes that are dry and boring quite frankly. SAMs cakes taste good but still are boring. You don't understand with custom cakes you are paying for the labor and quality taken with creating the cake you want. At walmart you simply buy what they have or get a cake with plastic figures and that's about as 'custom' they get. So please, just because YOU are a tightwad, don't make ASSumptions about pricing on custom made items especially when you simply don't want to pay the price quoted. Take a look around the web at custom cake shops pricing for their cakes, THEN tell me brookes price was too high, but I guarantee you won't.

MaryJane --- 15 years ago -

Hey Brooke, I found it and made the cake, my hubby was speechless when he saw it. I put it in the same place where he usually puts his console and it took him a lil while to realize it was not it! The controller was the tricky part; I had to use M&Ms for the buttons. It took me almost 3 hours but he loved it so it was worth it. Samantha, I agree. I wouldn't make a cake like that for less than $125 because it requires a great deal of time and effort, it's also a big cake so it would cost me about $50 just on ingredients if not more.

Reeses --- 15 years ago -

Brooke said she was "doing me a favor" bc my husbands deployed. LAFF!!!! Doing me a favor ain't chargine me no $50 for a cake. You all be full of $hit up in here! And she bragged about how she gives cakes away. That ain't no giving cakes away. Again. Ill go to walmart thanks but no thanks. You all be stupididiots.

Samantha --- 15 years ago -

Exactly Maryjane. It's people like this kook who made me take a break from cake making. For 75 servings and 3 tiers I wouldve charged 75 and that's still cheap!

Samantha --- 15 years ago -

No dear, she gives cakes away in a foundation for underpriveleged kids in the area. I used to do that also. You are asking to BUY a cake, so there's quite a difference. And please speak English instead of your half-assed Ebonics.

Hyperbole --- 15 years ago -

This whole $50 cake bit disturbs me. Yes, I donate cakes to children/families that are suffering from economic difficulties. You do not fall under this category! Obviously I was quite the sucker for offering to do it at a price you could afford. I am all for birthdays, but it really irks me that you chose to mistake mu kindess for my weakness. There are children out there that receive NOTHING for their birthday, but you can afford a party and other items. At least your child is receiving something. I sure learned my lesson.

Iamcleaningouthouse --- 15 years ago -

REESE, you said "No one pays that much for a stupid cake".. its sad thatyour making such a big deal about this when its for your kids 1st birthday. this is for your kid of course its worth it. Its also not just a stupid cake its a special cake for your special kids. I mean how pathetic are you birthdays are supposed to be special and your supposed to be willing to spend that extra money that you wouldnt normally spend. You wanted her to just give you a cake!! your hubby is deployed, hes in th emilitary you can afford y our own $hit.. if you dont manage your money right because your buying yourself $hit you dont need or have credit up the a$$ then thats your problem not brooke's. Uhm also your online ranting obviously you odnt needa free cake. if you disconnect your internet maybe you can save money this year and buy your child the cake he/she deserves next year. your going to feed 75 poeple for $50 thats a good deal less than $1 per person. if you go to johnsons bakery you would paid like $150 for that and walmart will not even make you a custom cake you can only pick from there book. Brooke's makes your visons a reality when it comes to cakes you dream it and she makes it. Companies charge 3 times that amount for specialty cakes. Your a Moron Reese or sh ould I call you Kerrie Im not sure. No One has ever complained about her prices or cakes and here you are complaning and she only gave you quote sounds fishy. I agree with justjack it sounds fishy someone is out to get brooke and her hubby.

Victoria1 --- 15 years ago -

REESE, you said "No one pays that much for a stupid cake".. its sad thatyour making such a big deal about this when its for your kids 1st birthday. this is for your kid of course its worth it. ----sooo effin' true!!!! i had a hello kitty cake one year for my daughters b-day from a "bakery" and it was crap. i was so livid and it made me sad because it was my daughters. i showed my sister theis picture posted and i said can u believe that cake is 50.00? she goes..u mean 150.00? lmao...even ppl who just sees the cake knows u were done a favor. the way u talk what were u expecting? something a little more "ghetto"?

MaryJane --- 15 years ago -

Brooke, People usually do that when you are nice; that's why I stay away from that! Not really, I just have an "eye" for phonies and hypocrits and the story that she gave you just would have not sound right to me. Besides, I'm a soldier married to a soldier and have experienced both sides of a deployment so I wouldn't have believed the story she gave you. If I had a child and his/her b-day was coming up and I didn't have the money, I would sell or pond whatever to make it memorable. Brooks, I too agree with Jack; it's too much of a coincidence that this was posted a few days after that other nasty thread. It does seem as though someone is trying to destroy their reputation and it seems like jealousy to me. Victoria, I showed the pic of the cake to my hubby and he told me a cake like that would cost like $400! I couldn't believe that someone would want a cake like that for under $50 and have the nerve to complain about it. It really bugged me that she was attacking a fellow cake artist so I had to say something.

Hyperbole --- 15 years ago -

For too long I have underbid my cakes because people like to "compare" to Walmart. While I know there is no comparison, it is sometimes hard to convince people elsewise. The comparison of a custom, scratch cake is NOT comparible by any means! I don't know if you all have ever seen my topsy turvy cake...it was a white, pink, and black? That was my first big cake. It sold for almost $600! I was genuinely trying to help this woman, whom I have to agree sounds like a fraud, and I just cannot fathom that the fact that she thinks she is owed so much! It is simply amazing. Regardless, whether this person is real or not, I have kind of hardened myself because of this incident. I know the time and money that goes into these cakes and if other people cannot realize that then perhaps they are better off going elsewhere. My time is valuable too. Sadly, people like this are a dime or dozen. I had another person tell me my cakes were to expensive yesterday. A cake I knew would be priced three -four times higher at a bakery. I try too hard to please others and it always bites me in the butt...and then I STILL get slammed. Oy! Either way, thank you for the vote of confidence ladies, and gentleman.

MaryJane --- 15 years ago -

Brooke, Take it from a fellow cake artist, because that's what we are, many people don't appreciate all the effort and artistry that goes into making a cake. It seems as thought many people around here want it all for nothing. I have been baking for 9 years now and have encountered many people that have come to me with all sorts of stories and asking for many favors and I fell for one, and that one aslmost destroyed my business when I was in NY, and never again. If a person is not willing to pay what a cake is truly worth then I don't want your business. If many people around here lived in NY where cost of living is much higher and there aren't that many wal-marts, they would learn to appreciate a well made custom cake. Comparing a custom cake to a cake from wal-mart is like saying that a pair of Blahniks is like a pair from payless, so wrong! You're so nice so people try to take advantage of you. I appreciate your art and I'm glad I have someone to talk to about cakes! As you can see, I'm very passionate about them :P

Hyperbole --- 15 years ago -

Mary Jane- I completely see where you are coming from. Initially when I started it was for fun, and not many people respect my transition to small business. You are dead on when you say that if they aren't willing to pay they aren't worth the time. I told my husband yesterday that was my new motto. Funny how you mentioned it here. Where were you in NY, btw? I grew up in Upstate New York on the Canadian border. Were you stationed in Fort Drum or did you actually live elsewhere? I lived in a bodunk town where to cows overpopulated the people. Five mintues from Canada, eh? :) Thanks for the note. And you must share pics!! Do you have sell cakes locally?

MaryJane --- 15 years ago -

You're most welcome :D I lived in Manhattan, upper east, with my aunt for about 2 years while I was going to college and about a year in Jersey City, that was before joining the Army. I met my hubby there. I don't think I ever went that far up state, the farthest I got was Suffern, population 11,000+ and that's enough said! I am not taking any orders now because my hubby is deploying soon so I want to dedicate my time to him, the last one I made was the one that I told you about ;) I made several in the past few months; valentines's day was crazy, mainly for hispanic clientele which I didn't know was so abundant around here! I have also made some cakes for a few unit functions for the DS units in Norman and OKC (imagine driving that far to deliver a cake)and a few here and there. Usually the same clients, or friends of them. I'll wait till I finish school so I can do it full time, well, it would be a moonlight thing till my contract is up. I will send you pics of the last cake I made and a fe others I had made. BTW: if you are ever in Hoboken, New Jersey, you must visit "Carlos Bakery" it's own by Buddy Valastros, you have probably seen his show on TV, and he's usually there. I met him last December and oh my... what a cake chat we had!
